Are you a disciple today?

How does is make you feel to realise that the Spirit of God is hovering over you.

Matthew 29-16-20 sets out the great commission. He was with us at the beginning and will be with us right to the end.

The 11 followed the instructions that Jesus gave them. Even in their doubt they obeyed what Jesus said. When you follow Jesus his Spirit lives in us.

He called us to go and make disciples and teach them everything that I have taught you.

The instruction is for the disciples, for the believers, for each and every one of us.

Jesus gives us the command to go and share Jesus with all that you encounter. He will place the right people in front of you.

So today are you ready to do what he commanded you. We used the example of falling dominos to illustrate how the message, the good news can be passed to others.

We need to live out his word, not just speak the word but live the word. Jesus illustrated to his disciples how things needed to be.

We live in times where news can be real, fake or even simply indifferent.

We need to graduate from disciple to apostle, from apprentice to skilled worker.

Jesus is leaving his legacy and it is up to us to share that legacy with others.

Amanda then got a volunteer to hold a Bible at arms length. He had to hold it for quite a while. But Amanda supported the Bible with him to illustrate how we share the load.

Working together as a church we can achieve many things.

She use4d a pile of baptismal towels to show the differences and uniqueness of us all. Rought towels, different colours, matching and odd.

We are a chosen generation to speak to others about Jesus. Grandmother, mother, aunty, sister, wife and friend, use these roles to speak and share the news.

The Lord’s supper: The importance of communion.

Matty reflected on the work of the team behind Alpha. He turned to the act of communion. A Holy Communion as set out in Corinthians and Ephesians.

To keep you sensitive to sin we should examine ourselves and eat and drink of the bread of the cup.

The manner in which you approach communion is what matters.

Matty reflected on his own experience of being troubled about taking communion when he might feel in dispute or aggrieved with someone.

He knows that he has to bring it to the Lord. He also reinforced the importance of parents explaining the importance to children of taking communion.

He explained that our hearts should overflow with desire to help others . We are here to serve Christ and build up the church.

The early church remembered that the Lord’s supper celebrates the deliverance from sin through Christ’s death.

Christians generally agree that participation in the Lord’s supper, the communion strengthens our spirituality.

In Mark 14:24 Jesus death on the cross was a spotless sacrifice to forgive sin.

Spiritual gifts: What is yours and what are you using it for?

Yvette brought the word today. She describes the importance of Corinth at that time but also the difficulties the Corinthians face in trying to live authentically in an idolatrous city.

Paul cannot believe the sexual immorality of the city and the fact that they are proud of it. Instead of sorting things out, they sue each other.

The spiritual gifts should be used to build each other up. But here they are using spiritual gifts to purpose their own agendas.

At the Baptist Assembly the Rev Dr Helen Painter, said it’s about what gifts the church has been given through you, not centred on the gifting you have been given.

Spiritual gifts are about how goo God is not how good we are,.

They help they encourage they build people up. The prophecies on the wall of our church have kept us going for decades now.

Using the gifts that God has given us helps us to help each other.

It may just be a sense of what God wants from us. Remember if it’s not in Scripture it is not from God.

1Peter 4 10-11 tells us to use whatever gifts we have given through the power of God and to God’s glory.

It’s ok to be wrong, but be humble and acknowledge it.

The Holy Spirit often gifts us facts and knowledge we cannot know in any other way. Sharing this with the people concerned brings authenticity and openness.

We may get one main gift that we use all the time, or a range of gifts to use in different circumstances.

The same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, is the Spirit gifting us. The are different kinds of service.

Romans 12 and Ephesians 4 also talk about the gifts from God. All gifts are intending to help each other. All the gifts are important, they build up other people and encourage them.

How do we serve the Lord and what is our attitude when serving the Lord? Are we generous with the fruits of the Spirit? How do we see people at work in the Spirit? What is the Spirit doing with us and our Church?

He does want to heal through us.

2 Tim 3 16-17 teaches us to do what is right.

If something contradicts the bible then it’s not from God.

Love is more important than Spiritual gifts. Without love spiritual gifts will not flourish.

Chapter 13 is Paul’s sharing on love.

If a part of the body does not work seek the help of the doctor. In this case the doctor is the Holy SPIRIT.

The same Holy Spirit is at work in each of us.

We’ve all been given spiritual gifts. If you are not sure ask God what you have been given.

United in mission, sharing God’s message.

Today’s service came to you courtesy of Pam, Viv and Tel!

We joined the Baptist Assembly in a prayer across the country at 11:05.

Viv Neville brought us the message from John 14: 1 to 14

The disciples are anxious, confused and afraid. They’ve been with him for three years but they still need reassurance. Jesus tells them here to not be overcome with fear and to trust in Him. He gives them troubling news but is comforting them.

Viv shares that we’ve all been scared at times. The Lord is telling us to take one day at a time. We don’t really know what is coming, so just get through today.

We only have this moment in time.

Jesus is reassuring the disciples and us there is eternal life for us and that a place has prepared a place and an eternal future for us.

Faith in God does not remove trouble.

Jesus goes on to say his is the way the truth and the light. Thomas asks and is told. Jesus is the way to god and salvation.

Jesus is the truth and don’t we need this at the moment.

People are searching for truth but a lot are looking in the wrong places.

Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father, and Jesus asked “Don’t You know Me?” They had been with him for a long time.

Viv asked for three volunteers, She offered them the names, Ice water and stream. Three different forms of the same thing. The trinity is the same.

To know what God is like, we simply need to look at Jesus.

Compassion, holiness, mercy, justice and love. Jesus was missioning us to take the Gospel to our corner of the world.

The disciples and all who came to believe. They took the message to the wider world.

I can only imagine as a song went world while with 5 million downloads. Yet its author wrote it in 10 minutes.

Viv shared the work she has done with the Orb. Setting up a Facebook page results in thousands of views.

2.6 billion or 31.7% of the world identify as Christians worldwide. Don’t hide your light, keep an ear in heaven and the other on earth.

Trust in God in uncertainty. We are called to continue the mission wherever we are.

Matty’s message: Be a new creation

Matty reflected on the progress of the Alpha course.

Faith comes from hearing, you may doubt your own ability but don’t ever doubt what god can do.

Those who trust in themselves are fools. it is better to trust in the Lord than put trust in man. Centre your confidence in God and not in yourself.

He reflected on the actions of Thomas, a man who walked alongside Jesus for three years and heard all his teachings but still was full of doubt.

Did Jesus condemn him for this?

No, he welcomes those with sincere doubts and questions. And Alpha is a great example of this.

There are people in the congregation thinking of baptism, and isn’t that a marvellous thought. It is best summed up in 2 Corinthians 5:17 He is a new creation, the old is gone!
